Ingredients

  • Corn flour
  • Ripe bananas
  • Sugar (optional)
  • A pinch of salt
  • Water
  • Cooking oil

How to Make Banana Fritters: A popular Malawian dish

The ingredients needed for banana fritters.

Step 1: Mash bananas into a very fine paste (you can use a blender).

Step 2: If the bananas are not very sweet, you can add sugar to the banana paste according to your liking.

Step 3: Add a pinch of salt according to your liking.

Add corn flour and make a dough.

Step 4: Add corn flour to the paste.

Step 5: If the mixture is too thick, add a bit of water- However, adding water is optional. If the mixture has the right consistency, you do not have to add water at all. 

What’s the right consistency?  The mixture must neither be too sticky nor hard. You should be able to make a soft ball with the mixture.

Form small patties with your hands.

Step 6: Make small balls according to how big you want your fritters to be, then place the ball on your palm and use your other hand’s four fingers to flatten the ball.

Step 7: Fry in heated oil on medium heat to make sure that the fritters are well cooked inside.

Fry in oil over medium heat to ensure they are fully cooked.

Step 8: Banana Fritters are ready to serve! Enjoy this delicious recipe with a cup of coffee or tea, or just as an afternoon snack.
