Improving Healthcare Access in Rural Malawi
Outreach Clinics Improve Healthcare Access during Malawi’s Rainy Season
Improving Healthcare Access in Rural Malawi
Access to healthcare services remains a great challenge in most rural communities of Malawi due to shortage of labour, lack of healthcare capacity, poverty and long distances that people are required to travel to access healthcare services. This is what spurred our healthcare program to start the Orant Mobile Outreach Clinic in 2019.
However, with the growing population that the Mobile Outreach Clinic serves and the long distances that our medical team travels to bring the health-care services close to those who need it most, we have thought it wise to open a second Mobile Outreach Clinic, to cover a large area and serve more people.
How will our second Mobile Outreach Clinic serve the community better?
The new Mobile Outreach Clinic (MOC 2) does not only mean growth of our team, but also, increased capacity in our operations and service to communities. As our team is growing, we are glad to extend our healthcare services to other areas where it is needed the most.
The clinic will also help to decongest other health facilities where people go to access health services. As such, high quality of care will be provided to communities.
“The new Mobile Outreach Clinic has come to our community at the right time. During the rainy season, most rivers are flooded making it hard for us to travel and get healthcare services,” said senior group Chakhala.
MOC 2 will be providing outpatient care, cervical cancer screening, antenatal care and family planning services.
