Position: Development and Marketing Intern (paid)

Reports to: Lead Development Officer, Executive Director

Contract Period: May – December 

Location: Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas (Remote)

Job Description

Work with Orant’s team to market and raise funds for our holistic community building programs in Malawi. This position will give you the opportunity to learn and work with a young but experienced team on both more traditional strategies and news trends in fundraising and marketing. 

You will work closely with the Lead Communications Officer and Lead Marketing Officer remotely and in local in-person fundraising events in DFW.

You will work on various projects including contacting donors, mastering our donor CRM, contributing to Orant’s social media presence, and much more. Orant is a collaborative organization at its core and the intern’s input and perspective will be appreciated.

The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator and is excited to learn. They are a team player, problem solver, and are inspired by Orant’s mission. Experience in communications or marketing are required and experience or interest in fundraising is a plus. The candidate is still in university or has recently finished, and has expressed interest in working in relevant sectors.

While this is a contract position, there is an opportunity for longer-term employment once the contract period is over.

Orant Charities is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers fundraising, strategic, and technological support to Orant Charities Africa, our sister organization in Malawi, Africa. Orant Charities Africa makes a sustainable impact in Malawi through a holistic, local, and data-driven approach to supporting women and communities. Our programs expand across four themes: Water & Sanitation, Education, Healthcare, and Agriculture & Business. 

Our team in the US is small and remote, but our operations team in Malawi is composed of over 50 hardworking, rurally-based and highly skilled Malawians that run our everyday operations and programs. We work to support them and highlight their work to the US, Malawian, and international communities. Orant Charities is not a religiously affiliated organization.


Expectations

Development/Fundraising

  • Assist in donor data entry
  • Support local fundraising events and yearly gala 
  • Make calls to donors
  • Write donor thank you cards
  • Research/solicit live auction items
  • Run outreach and fundraising events
  • Bring new ideas and perspectives to the organization

Marketing

  • Assist in creation of social media posts
  • Assist with weekly blog articles
  • Bring new ideas and perspectives to the organization

Growth Opportunities

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Interest and some background in communications, marketing, and/or fundraising
  • Experience with Social Media, business accounts, Google Drive, and Gmail
  • Express an interest in the mission of Orant Charities

Additional Requirements/Notes

  • Must be based locally in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
  • Can work 10-20 hours per week
  • Hourly-based pay
  • Priority to current college students or recent college graduates
