Combatting the effects of climate change in Malawi by sensitizing communities on climate change, ensuring Orant’s programs respect the environment, and providing sustainable energy solutions to our communities.

Energy and Environment Program
Climate change is a harsh reality that cannot be ignored, affecting the people of Malawi with cyclones, drought and unpredictable rain and floods. The devastating impact of deforestation on Ngara Mountain and the irregular flow of the Bua River, the nearest landmarks to our campus, are local symbols of the impact of climate change. These challenges have prompted us to launch the Energy and Environment Program to address the effects of climate change and promote sustainable development.
The goal of this program is to mitigate the effects of climate change, advocate for environmental protection, and ensure proper waste management. We also aim to increase access to affordable solar energy and educate the community about alternative energy sources.
Solar and Alternative Energy
We are increasing access to solar and other forms of sustainable energy on our campus and in surrounding communities! We work to implement sustainable sources of energy like solar, biogas, and high-efficiency biofuels in our communities. In the long run, we aim to develop innovative solutions to address climate change, conduct research to identify local solutions, and partner with other organizations in the Energy and Environment sector.
Impact Through Collaboration
Our Energy and Environment Program collaborates with other core Orant programs, including WASH, Healthcare, Business Development and Agriculture. We conduct environmental and social impact assessments for all our projects and provide advisory services to ensure that our programs are environmentally sustainable.
