Position: Healthcare Programs Manager

Reports to: Country Director – Orant Charities Africa, Executive Director – Orant Charities US

Job Description

This is a senior management position which requires the highest level of objectivity, dedication and problem solving skills. The role of the Healthcare Manager is to primarily manage the Healthcare programs of Orant Charities Africa which include the operations of a Health centre and an outreach clinic that treat up to 70,000 patients a year. Our clinics include OPD, Maternal and Child health, Eye clinics, ART, antenatal, family planning, and more. The position entails working with over 30 medical personnel including clinicians, nurses, and PCAs and ensuring that they are all working efficiently and professionally.

The applicant will need to work to bridge two separate medical programs operating as multiple diverse teams in a fast-paced, dynamic, and rural environment and ensure that they are operating together with maximum efficiency.

Responsibilities 

  • Own and manage all Healthcare Programs under Orant Charities Africa
  • Fully comprehend and intimately understand all aspects of OCA Healthcare Programs
  • Identify and recommend healthcare personnel needs
  • Oversee and coordinate monthly medical reports
  • Actively engage in all medical programs
  • Continually develop new possibilities for healthcare programs and understand how programs can most effectively expand
  • Provide expertise in scheduling and assigning roles for the healthcare program staff
  • Ensuring compliance with local laws/policies, donor requirements and organizational procedures and policies 
  • Ability to liaise with the government, NGOs and other stakeholders in healthcare service delivery
  • Continually monitor program implementation and recommend necessary strategies
  • Work closely with the Country Director and other program managers to ensure that the goals of OCA are achieved
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Country/Executive Director

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • 8+ years working in healthcare environments
  • Background as medical doctor, nurse, clinician or other medical personnel
  • Must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following; MBBS, Bsc in  Health Management, Bsc in Clinical medicine, Bsc in Nursing or equivalent management degree plus experience in healthcare service delivery
  • Significant experience managing large, diverse teams
  • Excellent professional command of written and spoken English
  • Understanding of the principles of management and how to execute them in a dynamic environment
  • Highly driven, hardworking, and self-starter
  • Understand data, report writing, and medical report assessment 
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new situations quickly
  • Respectful and able to work well with diverse individuals and groups

Skills/Product knowledge

  • Significant understanding of day-to-day medical operations
  • Electronic medical records/health management systems (ex: Baobab/Mizu)
  • Email/Gmail
  • Google Drive/Google Workspace
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, e.t.c)

Additional information for the application

  • 50% field, 50% office
  • Rural location in Dowa district
  • Significant active time will be spent on campus assessing programs, writing reports, and preparing explanations for the board and other stakeholders
  • A strong personality and ability to lead and work with others in a team environment is a must
