Orant Charities Africa (OCA) is a non-governmental organization serving in rural communities of Malawi. It was founded and registered as an NGO in Malawi in 2014.  OCA serves in Malawi through healthcare and implementing development programs. It operates in the following thematic areas; Healthcare, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Education, Agriculture, Business Development, and Energy and Environment.

Job summary

The Business Development Officer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and processing group loan applications, ensuring compliance with lending policies, and maintaining strong relationships with clients. 

The job holder is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Identify and engage potential clients for group lending programs in assigned areas.
  • Conduct awareness campaigns and financial literacy training for potential and existing clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with group members to ensure trust and cooperation.
  • Conduct thorough field assessments and due diligence to evaluate the creditworthiness of groups and individuals.
  • Facilitate group formation, ensuring members meet eligibility criteria and understand their responsibilities.
  • Assist clients in completing loan application forms and ensure all required documentation is submitted.
  • Recommend loan approvals to management, adhering to company policies and lending standards.
  • Disburse loans to approved groups and provide clear instructions on repayment terms.
  • Monitor loan repayments and follow up on overdue accounts to minimize default rates.
  • Regularly visit clients to assess progress and address any issues affecting repayment.
  • Provide timely reports on loan performance, disbursements, and recoveries to the Business Development Manager.
  • Ensure adherence to all organizational and regulatory guidelines in the lending process.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of all client interactions, loan approvals, and disbursements.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the manager on portfolio performance and challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in Economics, Business Administration, Accounting or any related field
  • Minimum of two years’ work experience
  • Ability to work independently and manage field work in rural areas
