Transforming Access to Safe Water in Kasese

April 29, 2026 Praises Padambo No comments yet

A Step Toward Healthier Communities

The Ongoing Water Challenge in Rural Communities

Across many rural communities, access to clean water remains a daily struggle. For some, the challenge is walking long distances. For others, it is the harsh reality of relying on unsafe or poor-quality water sources.

In the communities surrounding Kasese Trading Centre, the situation has been particularly difficult. Many residents have depended on saline water, which is not suitable for drinking, cooking, or even watering crops. This has had long-term effects on household health, nutrition, and productivity. For families, especially women and children, the burden of finding usable water has been both time-consuming and physically demanding.

A Shift Toward Sustainable Piped Water Solutions

In 2025, we began transitioning from standalone water points toward more sustainable piped water systems, a step forward in how we approach long-term water access solutions.

The Kasese Mini Piped Water System represents this progress. It is our second piped water system, building on lessons learned and strengthening our commitment to scalable, community-centered solutions.

By upgrading an existing borehole with good-quality water into a solar-powered mini piped system, we are extending access to more people while improving reliability and convenience.

A Sustainable Solution: Solar-Powered Mini Piped Water System

This system is designed to:

  • Bring water closer to homes and businesses, reducing long and exhausting walks

  • Provide a consistent and reliable water supply

  • Improve hygiene and sanitation practices across the community

  • Support small-scale economic activities that depend on water

By harnessing solar energy, the system remains environmentally friendly and cost-effective, ensuring long-term sustainability for the community.

We are proud to share that the project is now almost complete, and soon, residents of Kasese Trading Centre will begin accessing clean, safe water with greater ease.

This milestone represents more than infrastructure. It marks a meaningful shift in daily life. It means less time spent searching for water, reduced health risks, and more opportunities for families to focus on education, business, and overall wellbeing.

As we continue this journey, be on the lookout to learn more in the near future about the progress and impact this system will bring to the Kasese community.
