Orant Charities Africa (OCA) is a non-governmental organization serving in rural communities of Malawi. It was founded and registered as an NGO in Malawi in 2014.  OCA serves in Malawi through the following thematic areas; Healthcare, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Education, Agriculture, Business Development, and Energy and Environment.

About the Job

The Grants officer supports Orant Charities Africa in expanding and diversifying our institutional donor portfolios and also supports the institution to identify grant opportunities and develop grant proposals in close coordination with the Programs Team, Finance, Human Resource, and Operations Team.

 

The job holders are expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Work closely with the Country Director to research where potential opportunities for grants can be found.
  • Work closely with Country Director to develop, manage and maintain strategic partnerships with local actors, corporate donors and external donors
  • Develop a robust understanding of  OCA’s programming and funding needs 
  • Work collaboratively with program managers to ensure grant submissions contain the most updated and accurate information 
  • Write successful project proposals
  • Creating sustainable fundraising initiatives
  • Quality assurance to ensure grant proposal projects meet donor requirements
  • Ensure that all categories of program costs are taken into account at the conceptualization and submission stage of grant application 
  • Timely submission of project proposals and reports
  • Support acquisition efforts for projects
  • Develop and oversee grants calendar and establish pipeline to ensure the successful administration of awarded grants, including establishing grant budgets, timelines and reporting schedules
  • Monitor grant expenditure and ensure compliance with funding requirements, regulations and reporting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Data team and program staff to track progress on grant funded activities and outcomes
  • Prepare grant reports upon request, including detailed narrative and financial summaries that accurately reflect grant funding impact.
  • Maintain communication with Grantors beyond standard proposal submissions and reporting deadlines to encourage collaboration and ensure continued goal alignment

 

Expertise

  • Degree in development studies or any other related field 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ proven experience in grant writing, grant management and fundraising
  • Familiarity with budgeting and financial management principles
  • Knowledge of nonprofit sector, fundraising techniques and grant making processes 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build relationships with external partners and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of local and external donors that could support Orant Charities Africa
  • Excellent communication, negotiating, relationship management, conceptual and analytical skills
  • High level of computer proficiency
  • Willing to relocate to Kasese – Dowa
