Congratulations to the Ulemu Scholarship Recipients! Orant’s Ulemu scholarship seeks to invest in the education of outstanding, hardworking and intelligent Malawian students by sponsoring them towards getting a diploma or bachelor’s degree. Read their bios here!
Doreen Kapalanga
Aged 20, Doreen is the first born in a family of three. She hails from Senti village in Lilongwe. She is a previous Orant student who was sponsored from form one to form four at Likuni Secondary School. Doreen scored 17 points in her MSCE and was selected to study Bachelor of Science in Child Health Nursing at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHes). She is expected to start school early next year. Her scholarship covers tuition fees, food and accommodation. “I would like to treat patients with passion and care and help in saving lives,” says Doreen.
Lexina Ngwira
Lexina is the first child in her family to finish secondary school. She is 20 years old and she did her secondary school education at Nkhamenya Girls’ Secondary School where she was sponsored by Orant. After sitting for her MSCE exams, she got 15 points and was selected to Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) to study Bachelor of Arts in Language, Communication and Culture. Lexina’s scholarship covers tuition fees, fees and accommodation.
Sinikiwe Tomoka
18 year old Sinikiwe hails from Mbachazwa village in the Northern region of Malawi. Sinikiwe’s parents depend on subsistence farming and it was hard for them to support their daughter’s education. Orant sponsored Sinikiwe’s Secondary school education at Nkhamenya Girls’ Secondary School. She scored 12 points in her MSCE and was selected to study Dental Surgery at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, where she is expected to start early next year. Orant will sponsor Sinikiwe’s tuition fees, food and accommodation.
Agness Chilango
Agness is 18 years old and lives in Gamba village, Chitipa district. She did her secondary school at Nkhamenya Girls’ Secondary School, where she was sponsored by Orant as her single mother could not afford her school expenses. After sitting for her MSCE, Agness scored 20 points and she was selected for a Bachelor of Education in Languages degree at Mzuzu University. Agness’s scholarship covers her tuition, food and accommodation. “I want to change my story and I am hoping to change someone’s story someday,” she says.
Lonely Bivoti
Aged 19, Lonely was third born in a family of 9. She was born and raised in Kasese and she did her secondary education at Nkhamenya Girls’ Secondary School where she was sponsored by Orant. Lonely scored 13 points in her MSCE and was selected to Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) to study Mechanical Engineering. Lonely is expecting to go to school early next year and her scholarship covers tuition fees, food and accommodation. Lonely loves reading books and playing netball during her free time.
