Celebrating Women's History Month and FEM for Women Program Success
Women’s History Month with FEM for Women
Women are powerful beings with the ability to fight and overcome. They are resilient and play a significant role in shaping their families, communities, and nations’ morals and values.
Womens’ role in society
“As a woman, I play a role in preserving the culture of Malawi. I teach my children to kneel to elders and help them behave morally,” says Maligelita Nkhoma.
Women are known to be teachers; they are the first people to teach their children. They instill cultural norms and values in children, carried over to the next generation, which is valuable to Malawi.
Women also make a significant contribution towards improving their homes and the lives of their families. Orant also supports women and makes sure that their contribution towards society is possible. Through our Financially Empowering Microloans (FEM) for Women program, started in 2017, we support women in our community who are stuck in a cycle of poverty. We provide business women with zero interest loans which they pay back in a period of four months, in equal installments. The proceeds they make helps them to support their children, families and communities.
How FEM for Women helps small businesses owners succeed
“FEM for women loans help us to make a great contribution towards our families and the community. We are able to provide and take care of our family needs through the proceeds that we make from various businesses that we run, which are financed by FEM,” says Stella Kalimbakath, one of our FEM for Women program participants.
It is impossible to reciprocate the contributions that women make every single day. However, we can always support their efforts. This is why at Orant, in our everyday activities, we work on supporting women’s efforts and empowering them. We believe that by empowering women we are supporting a woman’s significant efforts in shaping her family and community as a whole.
