Orant Charities Africa (OCA) is a non-governmental organization serving in rural communities of Malawi. It was founded and registered as an NGO in Malawi in 2014.  OCA serves in Malawi through implementation of development programs. It operates in the following thematic areas; Healthcare, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Education, Agriculture, Business Development, and Energy and Environment.   • Title:  Human Resources  and Administration Officer

Reports to: Country Director

Location:  Kasese – Dowa

 

Job summary


The Human Resources and Administration Officer will support the organization in managing its human capital by ensuring effective recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance with labor laws and organizational policies. The individual will also ensure efficient day-to-day administrative operations. The role requires a highly organized, proactive individual who can support both people management and office systems effectively.

 

Key Responsibilities

The job holder is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Coordinate recruitment and selection processes, including job postings, shortlisting, and interviews
  • Maintain and update employee records and HR databases
  • Support onboarding and orientation of new staff
  • Administer performance management processes
  • Handle employee relations matters and disciplinary procedures
  • Ensure compliance with Malawi labour laws and internal HR policies
  • Manage leave tracking and staff welfare initiatives
  • Ensure staff motivation systems are active
  • Develop, review and up-date OCA policies 
  • Support training and capacity-building programs
  • Assist in payroll preparation and benefits administration

Administration Functions

  • Oversee daily office operations and ensure smooth administrative support
  • Manage office supplies, assets, and inventory
  • Coordinate travel, accommodation, and logistics for staff and visitors
  • Maintain proper filing systems for administrative documents
  • Ensure compliance with organizational administrative procedures

Qualifications and  Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar HR role
  • Knowledge of Malawi labour laws and HR best practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality

 

  1. Title:  Procurement Officer

Reports to: Finance Manager

Location:  Kasese – Dowa

Job Summary


The Procurement Officer will be responsible for managing procurement processes, ensuring timely acquisition of goods and services, and maintaining compliance with organizational and donor procurement policies. The individual is integral in ensuring cost-effectiveness of purchases and availability of goods and services for smooth running of the programmes. This position is also responsible for drafting procurement policies, tracking expenditure, and ensuring all activities meet strict transparency and accountability standards.

Key Responsibilities

The job holder is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Plan and execute procurement activities in line with organizational policies, procedures and legal requirements
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders, request for Quotations/Proposals,  bid documents, and contracts with suppliers/service providers
  • Source and evaluate suppliers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, documentation and supplier database
  • Develop, review, and update t Procurement Policies, Manual and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor stock levels and coordinate with other teams
  • Provide guidance to staff to ensure adherence to procurement policies, laws, and best practices
  • Ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability in procurement processes
  • Assist in tracking procurement budgets and expenditures
  • Provide oversight in the movement and delivery of goods and services to various departments and project locations
  • Conduct market surveys and price analyses
  • Support audits and ensure compliance with donor and organizational requirements
  • Coordinate with the Facilities department in disposal of assets inline with organisation polices

Qualifications and  Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field
  • Those with a Professional Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Level 4 Diploma or above will have an added advantage
  • Registration as a paid-up member of the Malawi Institute of Procurement and Supply (MIPS)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in procurement or supply chain roles within an NGO or donor-funded setting
  • Knowledge of procurement regulations and procedures
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and integrity





  1. Title:  Clinical Technician

Reports to: Kasese  Health Centre Manager

Location:  Kasese – Dowa

 

Job summary

The Clinical technician will provide high-quality, patient-centered medical care at Orant Charities Africa’s health facilities. They will be responsible for diagnosing and treating illnesses, prescribing medications, providing preventive healthcare services, and ensuring patients receive compassionate and professional treatment. The Clinical Technician will also play a key role in health education, disease prevention, and supporting community health initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The job holder is expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Serve as a primary health care provider both at static and mobile outreach clinics.
  • Collect a complete medical history and perform a comprehensive clinical examination per medical council protocols.
  • Prescribe appropriate treatment and plan a proper follow-up.
  • Provide maternal and neonatal health care services
  • Ensure a referral letter/form is written for the transfer of the patient from Kasese to a referral center
  • Maintain an environment where patient’s needs are prioritized.
  • Make sure that tools and equipment used in the clinic are available.
  • Compile, analyze, and utilize data for decision making
  • Compile and submit reports to the supervisor every month
  • Perform reasonable work-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. Minimum of Diploma in Clinical Medicine.

  2. Must be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi with a valid practicing license.

  3. At least 1-2 years of clinical work experience will be an added advantage.

  4. Ability to work independently and manage emergencies.

  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  6. Willingness to work in a rural health facility setting.

 

  1. Title:  Clinical Technician – Locum

      Reports to: Kasese  Health Centre Manager

      Location:  Kasese – Dowa

Job Summary

Orant Charities Africa is seeking qualified Locum Clinical Personnel to provide night shift clinical coverage at Kasese Health Centre. The Locum Clinical Technician will support the delivery of essential health services during night hours, ensuring continuity of patient care when regular staff are off duty.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality, patient-centered medical care including diagnosis, treatment, emergency management, and preventive health services in accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines and Medical Council of Malawi standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The job holder will be expected to perform the following duties;

  • Provide clinical services during night shifts at Kasese Health Centre.

  • Receive and attend to patients presenting during night hours.

  • Take complete patient medical histories and perform clinical examinations according to Medical Council of Malawi protocols.

  • Diagnose and manage common illnesses and prescribe appropriate treatment.

  • Manage emergency cases including maternal and neonatal emergencies when required.

  • Ensure proper documentation of patient consultations, treatments, and clinical procedures.

  • Write referral notes for patients requiring transfer to referral health facilities.

  • Ensure clinical tools, drugs, and equipment required for night duty are available and properly used.

  • Maintain a professional environment where patient care, safety, and confidentiality are prioritized.

  • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Title: Pharmacy Technician

            Reports to: Kasese  Health Centre Manager

      Location:  Kasese – Dowa

Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for supporting the efficient and safe management of medicines and medical supplies at Kasese Health Centre. The role involves dispensing medications, maintaining accurate inventory and records, and ensuring proper storage and handling of pharmaceuticals in line with regulatory standards. The Pharmacy Technician will work closely with clinicians and nurses to promote effective drug therapy, provide guidance to patients on medication use, and utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems for dispensing and stock management. Additionally, the role includes supervising pharmacy support staff, coordinating drug orders and deliveries, and contributing to overall quality healthcare service delivery in a rural setting.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The job holder will be expected to perform the following duties;

  • Supervise drug and medical material orders to ensure the efficient and appropriate use of allocated funds
  • Coordinate the receipt of international and local orders   
  • Fill patients’ prescriptions according to instructions given by clinicians
  • Provide patients with information regarding drug interactions, side effects, and storage requirements
  • Review and interpret clinician orders and detect therapeutic incompatibilities
  • Check drug stocks and make orders from the main drug storage
  • Maintains records for controlled drugs and removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory
  • Provide clinicians and nurses with information on proper drug therapy for patients 
  • Prepack drugs ready for dispensing
  • Issue required medicines to patients and give instructions on how to use and store them
  • Record data in relevant registers
  • Use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) in conducting various processes such as requisition, dispensing, and inventory
  • Organize monthly drug therapeutic committee meetings for drug selection
  • Be the custodian of the medicines and medical supplies in the pharmacy
  • Monitor drugs using HIMS tools and guidelines and report to the supervisor
  • Supervises the work results of pharmacy assistant and support personnel
  • Conduct proper handovers with necessary personnel
  • Ensure inventory is conducted timely and always up to date 
  • Ensure the pharmacy is clean and drugs are packed properly on shelves
  • Work as part of the team to provide support to other members of the healthcare team
  • Conduct monthly ordering of drugs from the DHO office
  • Compile and submit reports to the supervisor every month  
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Diploma in Pharmacy obtained from a recognized institution 
  • At least 2 years of work experience with a clean track record
  • Registered with the Pharmacy and Medicines Regulatory Authority
  • Practical knowledge in the use of computer packages such as Ms word and Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) will be an added advantage
  • Self-starter and able to work under minimum supervision.
  • Willing to work in the remotest settings and of a good understanding of health issues affecting rural communities in Malawi
  • Team player with good interpersonal communication skills.
