Play for a Purpose

March 19, 2025 Praises Padambo Comments Off on Play for a Purpose

Orant's Education Program

In Malawi, nearly three quarters of the population lives in extreme poverty (World Bank, 2025). With such high levels of poverty, it brings a devastating impact on access to education, forcing countless young minds to abandon their academic aspirations. For girls, the burden is heavier, as societal pressures often dictate that their only viable option is to enter into marriage and start a family, despite possessing great potential to succeed and make a meaningful impact in their communities. Thus, scholarships like ours serve as a beacon of hope, paving a pathway to educational opportunities that would otherwise remain inaccessible. By providing financial and material support, we empower students to break the cycle of poverty, unlock their full potential, and forge a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Over the years, sponsoring  students has proved to be a cornerstone of our Education Program, providing deserving students with the opportunity to pursue their educational aspirations. Through our years of experience, we’ve encountered countless students with so much potential, eager to succeed in school and life. However, many of these talented individuals come from impoverished families, where parents struggle to afford school fees, even at the most affordable institutions. As a result, these students are often forced to abandon their educational journey.

We have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of our scholarships. Take, for instance, Alick Nathan, a former sponsored student who excelled academically despite his impoverished background. With our support, Alick earned an honors bachelor’s degree in Engineering and has since found a new lease on life. His story serves as a reminder that, without intervention, exceptional potential  like Alick’s would be lost forever.

By investing in scholarships, we invest in the future of Malawi. We empower students to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers, equipped to tackle the many challenges facing their communities and Malawi at large.

Thank you to our presenting sponsor, GeoShack, for their long-time support of our Education program. Over the past four years, GeoShack’s employees have sponsored 30 students, providing them with the opportunity to achieve their dreams. Not only do they sponsor these students, but they also write letters to them, offering the Malawian students a unique opportunity to communicate with their American mentors who support them in their educational efforts. We are incredibly grateful to the employees of GeoShack for their steadfast support of our mission and the students of Malawi.

If you are unable to attend Bingo but would like to learn more about sponsoring a student through our Education program, please contact Erin Hearn at [email protected].
