Learning Made Fun at Ngala Library
At Orant Charities, we believe that education doesn’t stop when schools close. We believe that supporting students goes beyond just providing classrooms, books, or lab materials during school terms. It is also about making sure that young people remain engaged in learning, even outside of their regular school schedules.
Why Ngala Library?
Ngala Community Day Secondary School is situated in a remote area, where students often face challenges such as limited motivation and few dedicated spaces for studying. Outside of the library, there are very few places where they can focus and engage with their learning. Thus, this makes Ngala Library far more than just a collection of books, but a welcoming, safe space where students can come together to read, revise, and explore new ideas. By staying open during school holidays, the library offers:
- Access to learning materials that many students would not have at home during holidays.
- A quiet, safe and supportive study environment, free from distractions.
- Opportunities for growth beyond the classroom, birthing curiosity and self-driven learning.
The Impact
Since we started opening Ngala Library during school breaks, students have responded well. Instead of just staying at home, they are revising lessons, preparing for exams, and developing a stronger reading culture.
This initiative doesn’t stop at keeping the library open. To further encourage students’ dedication to learning and studying, we provide textbooks, school bags, and other essential study materials to those who regularly visit and use the library. These resources not only reward their commitment but also help them study more effectively.
By recognizing and supporting these students, we also inspire their peers to follow their example. Our goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of their circumstances, feels motivated and equipped to reach their full potential.
Looking Ahead
Education is at the heart of Orant’s mission. Keeping Ngala Library open during holidays is just one of the ways we are investing in Malawi’s future leaders. We believe that when students are given the tools, spaces, and encouragement to keep learning, they don’t just stay busy, they unlock their full potential.
