It was founded and registered as an NGO in Malawi in 2014.  OCA serves in Malawi through healthcare and implementing development programs. It operates in the following thematic areas; Healthcare, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Education, Agriculture, Business Development, and Energy and Environment. 

Job Summary

The role of Assistant Facilities Coordinator is to assist in managing the day-to-day operations of Orant Charities Africa’s facilities, ensuring that the environment is safe, well-maintained, and conducive to supporting the organization’s programs. It also involves assisting in diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine vehicle maintenance, and ensuring vehicles are in optimal working condition to support the organization’s operations.

 Key Responsibilities

The job holders are expected to perform the following duties and responsibilities;

  • Assist the Facilities Coordinator in overseeing all facility operations, including maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of buildings and equipment.
  • Coordinate with service providers for regular maintenance services (e.g., plumbing, electricity, mechanics and cleaning).
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment and tools
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections
  • Test drive vehicles to ensure repairs have been completed properly
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, promoting safe practices across the facilities.
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies, ensuring the timely replenishment and repair of tools and materials.
  • Support the planning and execution of facility-related projects, such as renovations or expansion.
  • Collaborate with healthcare and administrative staff to ensure that the facility meets the operational needs of the organization.
  • Handle minor repairs and adjustments to ensure optimal operation of facilities.
  • Assist in coordinating transportation, security, and logistics for staff
  • Supervising grounds keepers, maintenance workers and security employees.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma or in Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Facilities Management, or any related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in an automotive repair shop or similar environment

● Must have valid Driving License category C1, those with E will have added advantage

● Previous experience in facility management or coordination in a healthcare or NGO setting is preferred.

● Knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, and electrical components.

● Familiarity with tools and diagnostic equipment used in automotive repair.

● Basic knowledge of building systems (e.g. electrical and plumbing).

● Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

● Ability to follow instructions and work well as part of a team

● Strong communication skills in English and Chichewa.
