Celebrating Women's Day - Our Commitment to Equality
At Orant, women’s rights, empowerment and equality are at the core of our mission. We are dedicated to creating opportunities and platforms that enlight, value, support, and uplift women in every way possible.
Orant’s Business Development Program strengthens women
Our Business Development Program has played a vital role in economically empowering women, providing them with zero-interest loans to foster self-reliance, financial stability, and independence. This initiative not only helps women escape the cycle of poverty but also protects them from exploitation and abuse, enabling them to compete on an equal footing in the business world and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
The Umodzi Business Manual
Through our Business Development Program, we have developed the Umodzi Business Manual, a holistic toolkit designed to empower women and their spouses with the skills and knowledge necessary to build healthy, equitable relationships and successful businesses. Recognizing that economic empowerment can sometimes lead to unintended consequences, such as domestic violence or external exploitation stemming from mistrust or resentment, we created this manual as a measure to mitigate these risks.
The Umodzi Business Manual serves as a comprehensive guide, providing couples with the tools and strategies needed to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship together, while promoting mutual respect, trust, and open communication. By addressing these critical issues, we’re working to create a safer, more supportive environment for women to thrive in business and in life.
“This Manual has also shown promising results, with successful integration into our Agriculture program’s irrigation clubs. Here, women and men are working together, fostering a culture of equality, mutual respect, and cooperation which is the foundation for building stronger, more resilient communities,” says Tango Phiri, our Business Development Manager.
Focusing on girls’ education
At Orant, we also believe Education is a powerful catalyst for change. By supporting girls’ education, we’re empowering a new generation of women to become enlightened, secure better livelihoods, and compete on an equal footing in the workforce. This, in turn, helps to break the cycle of poverty and promotes gender equality in all spheres of life.
Water is an issue of gender
In our WASH program, we are ensuring that women’s voices are heard and valued. Over the years, we have made a conscious effort to compose committees with at least 60% women, guaranteeing that water-related issues, which disproportionately affect women, are addressed fairly, equally, and with the utmost sensitivity.
Join us in celebrating International Women’s Day and advocating for a world where women are valued, empowered, and treated with dignity and respect.

The Unyielding Struggle of a Malawian Rural Farmer
